Wicklow has a colorful history. The main house was built in 1835 by Rollins Lowndes and situated on the edge of commercial ricefields. It is a charming Greek revival structure with rarely seen Egyptian revival woodwork. In the early 1900’s the Kinloch Gun Club acquired the property, added an additional wing to the house, and used the residence for a temporary club house. In later years Cordes Lucas became owner of the property. Cordes was the manager of Kinloch Plantation and a direct descendent of Jonathan Lucas, the inventor of the rice mill. In recent years the property was owned by a member of the DuPont family who hunted with her family next door when they owned Kinloch. Mrs. DuPont loved Wicklow and made many improvements to the property during her tenure.

Today, Wicklow’s spectacular grounds cover 8.75 acres framed with azaleas, camellias, huge live oaks and pines. The old ricefields behind the house are now wooded. A landscaped pond is adjacent to a long driveway leading to the house and offers easy access to the guest house, manager’s residence, garden shed and pump house. The buildings have been recently painted and upgraded in the last four years. There are numerous improvements to all buildings including a new heating and cooling system in the main house, new water treatment system and 5G fiber optic lines.
